Five Moccasins Earn All-Conference Honors

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's cross country team saw five members honored by the Sunshine State Conference Tuesday afternoon as the league office announced its annual all-conference team selections. Senior Owen Allen along with sophomores Anthony Matthew, Christian Giller and Chris Colavita were all named First Team All-SSC while graduate student Alex Guy earned Second Team All-SSC accolades.

The five all-conference selections are the most for the Moccasins since 2006 when they had six selections including four first team and two second team. The four first team selections mark the most for FSC since 2016 when the Mocs had four honorees as well.

The Moccasins captured the 2023 Sunshine State Conference Championship this past weekend, dethroning the four-time defending champions Embry-Riddle in the process. The Mocs placed all five of their scoring runners in the top-eight with the top-seven finishers earning all-SSC honors.

League coaches voted for Runner, Freshman, and Coach of the Year awards, while runners who finished Top-14 at the 2023 SSC Men's Cross Country Championship earned All-SSC status.

Allen earns his first career all-conference accolades after taking sixth at this year's SSC Championship at Holloway Park. The senior completed the 8K course in 25:13.2. The Key West, Fla. native competed in three regular season meets for the Mocs where he took 46th at the Mountain Dew Invitational, 11th at the FSU Invite and 35th at the UAH Chargers Invitational. The senior has overcome several injuries throughout his career and was named the 2022-23 Florida Southern College Male Comeback Athlete of the Year following last season's performance.

Matthew, the 2022 Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year, earns his second career All-SSC honors after being named Second Team All-SSC last season. The Stuart, Fla. native led the Mocs at the 2023 SSC Championship as he placed third overall after completing the course in 24:59.6. The sophomore competed in four regular season meets for the Mocs where he took 11th at the Mocs XC Kick-off followed by a 60th place showing at the Mountain Dew Invitational. Matthew took 77th at the FSU Invite before posting a personal best at the UAH Chargers Invitational and placing 18th overall. Matthew is on pace to become the eighth Florida Southern men's cross country runner to be named All-SSC four times.

The Brandon, Fla. native competed in four regular season races for the Mocs as he placed fourth overall at the Mocs XC Kick-off to open the season before taking 33rd at the Mountain Dew Invitational. The Keystone Heights, Fla. native has been a leader in the program for the last several seasons and caps off his conference career with Second Team All-SSC honors after taking eighth at the 2023 SSC Championship this past weekend. He completed the 8K course in 25:19.6 while finishing eighth overall, one spot shy of first team honors. He competed in four regular season meets for the Mocs and opened the season with a third-place finish at the Mocs XC Kick-off followed by a 44th place showing at the Mountain Dew Invitational.
