Mocs Play to a Draw Against Lions in Midweek Conference Bout

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's soccer team settled for a Sunshine State Conference draw against Saint Leo University Wednesday night at Berend Field.

The Mocs (5-4-2, 1-2-1 SSC) had 26 shots in the game but could not find the net in the 0-0 tie. The Lions (4-2-3, 1-1-2 SSC) had six saves behind keeper Hannah Goetzer but equally could not settle in on offense with little time in the attacking half of the field.

Florida Southern was the first to have a scoring opportunity as Ally Prentice had a shot outside the box in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Mocs continued to fire in the offense front with a breakaway for Jasmin Adames halfway through the first half but the one-on-one with the keeper went just wide to remain an even zero.

While FSC continued to rack in the shots on goal, Saint Leo struggled to gain offensive moment until a shot on goal in the 25th minute that was saved by Jenny Staten. Even with the save, Staten faced only two shots in the first half as the Moccasin backline prevented much of any moment around the box. FSC finished with 12 shots in the first half but no goals as both teams went into the half even at zero.

The Mocs opened the second half with similar vibes and equally strong shot-taking with another 14 shots in the final 45 minutes. Staten had two additional saves late in the second half, but it was Goetzer with six total saves that prevented the Mocs from stealing a conference win.

Despite great opportunities by Sierra Spirk, Malia Brost, and Morgan Elliott, a goal was not in the picture for the Mocs against the Lions. A late free kick and final-minute corner for the Mocs nearly stole the show but Ori Gotauco's potential game-winner was foiled by Goetzer in the final seconds for the 0-0 draw.

The Mocs will be on the road this weekend, traveling to Winter Park to face Rollins on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
