WINTER PARK, Fla. – Jasmin Adames scored two goals for Florida Southern College women's soccer in a 2-1 conference win over Rollins College Saturday night at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field.
The Mocs (6-4-2, 2-2-1 SSC) scored in each half for a 2-0 lead late before conceding a goal in the final two minutes. The Tars (4-4-3, 2-2-1 SSC) scored late and even had an opportunity to tie in the final minute, but the Mocs held on for the 2-1 victory.
In a slightly uncharacteristic first half, the Mocs had only two shots in the first 45 minutes, but one of the shots was good for a goal and lead in the 36
th minute. Adames scored her first goal off a great assist by
Rilee Hasegawa as FSC fended off attempts on the other end.
Moccasin keeper
Jenny Staten had an early save in the first half and faced five shots in the first half in a highly contested battle of the midfield. As Staten continued to keep FSC ahead,
Ally Prentice had a shot on goal in the first making both shots FSC took being on target.
Florida Southern started the second half looking to score another with shots on goal by
Malia Brost and Hasegawa while Staten continued to rack in the saves on the opposite side. After trading shots for most of the second half, Adames scored her second goal on the top shelf for the 2-0 lead through 79 minutes.
Staten made one final save in the final 10 minutes before conceding a goal in the final two minutes by Kayla Park, but the two-goal lead proved too much as the Mocs won 2-1 in regulation. Staten finished with four saves, three in the second half, after facing 11 shots total. Despite losing the shot battle, FSC proved on-target in the road conference victory.
The Mocs return home to host Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday, Oct. 14, set for a 7 p.m. start at Berend Field.
