LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 14 Florida Southern College men's swimming team ended the 2023 calendar year with a dual meet against Indian River State College on Friday afternoon at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
The Mocs battled with the Pioneers for the entire meet, narrowly losing in team scoring 152-110. IRSC, who have won the last 49 NJCAA national titles, ended the final events on top to come away with the win. FSC finished with four event wins, led by
Kyle Micallef with two wins.
The meet opened with the 200 medley relay, which a team of
Brandon Wilson, Travis Oleson, Cameron Lai-Harris, and Micallef won the event in 1:31.46. In the next men's event,
Peter Csicsaky won the 100 free in a time of 9:45.71, followed by
John Zeiger winning the 200 free in 1:42.95.
In the 100 breast, Oleson (58.63) and
Nicko Peristeridis (59.66) finished second and third respectively. For the 200 fly, Viallon finished third in 1:55.07 and Wilson in third for 1:54.37. The middle of the meet saw a great finish by Micallef to win the 50 free (20.39) and 100 free (46.37).
The final events included the 200 breast with Peristeridis in second (2:07.14), Csicsaky in second in the 500 free (4:50.48), Viallon in second in the 100 fly (50.82), and Peristeridis in third for the 400 IM (4:12.71). The meet concluded with an exciting FSC win in the 200 free relay behind a team of Micallef, Viallon, Wilson, and Zeiger (1:23.04).
Florida Southern will take a winter break and return with a road trip to Rollins College on Jan. 12 before Senior Day on Jan. 13 against Barry University.
