TAMPA, Fla.- The Florida Southern College women's basketball team fell 65-44 to the third-ranked University of Tampa at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center Saturday afternoon.
The Moccasins move to 13-11 overall and 9-8 in the Sunshine State Conference, where the Spartans move to 23-1, 15-1 SSC.
FSC struggled to gain momentum in the first half, shooting 21-percent while the Spartans got ahead on the scoreboard quickly, with a 10-point advantage over the Mocs throughout the first two quarters.
Sophomore Arielle Dabu started off with a three-pointer to answer the Spartans' first three baskets. Dabu, the top scorer for Florida Southern, finished with 11 points and scored consistently attempting to rally the Mocs for an upset.
In the second half, freshman Sydney Gomes turned up the heat scoring eight of her 10 total points. The Spartans were relentless and kept a 20-point lead on the Mocs for the remainder of the game. With two minutes left in the fourth quarter, graduate student Ashley Shell added points from the free throw line finishing with eight points while Gomes exited the court with one last layup to wrap up the game at 65-44.
