LAKELAND, Fla. – Jasmin Adames scored her second goal of the season as Florida Southern College women's soccer team won 1-0 over Georgia Southwestern State University Friday night at Berend Field.

The Mocs (2-1, 0-0 SSC) battled in a close game with Adames' first-half goal being the game-winner in the first time these teams have met in program history. The Hurricanes (1-2, 0-0 PBC) had a surge of attack late, but FSC fended off the shots for the 1-0 victory.

Florida Southern struggled to maintain possession early as Georgia Southwestern managed early shots, including one that keeper
Jenny Staten made the save to keep the game even. But it was the Mocs in the 18
th minute with the goal as Adames worked her way around the defender for a perfect ball from her right foot. The goal marked her second goal in three games to start the 2023 season.

The Mocs kept the pressure with shots by
Sierra Spirk and shots on goal by
Malia Brost and Adames. In the final four minutes of the second half, FSC had shots by Adames, Spirk, and
Liliana Jeffries all saved by GSW with the teams locked in a 1-0 Moccasin advantage at the half.

A goalie change by the Mocs saw
Meghan Kriney in goal for the second half and immediately had an impact fending off wild crosses and the offensive attack by the Hurricanes. On the opposite side, Florida Southern continued with three shots in the final 45 minutes but it was a nail-biter in the last three minutes of the match.

The Canes pushed their attack with a dangerous shot that Kriney extended for a save with a rebound opportunity by GSW that was sent off the top crossbar. The Moccasins nailed in their clearances in the remaining time on the clock for the 1-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern.

Florida Southern finished with 11 shots, compared to GSW six. Seven of FSC's shots were on goal, as the GSW keeper finished with six saves, five in the first half. Again dominant in the offensive third, FSC had nine corners with the Canes ending with only one. Staten and Kriney split the shutout with each tallying a save.

The Mocs remain at home as they face Lander University on Sunday, Sept. 10, set for an 11 a.m. kickoff at Berend Field.
