FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 14 Florida Southern College men's swimming team lost its conference dual meet against No. 16 Nova Southeastern University at the NSU Aquatic Complex Friday afternoon.
The Mocs lost in team scoring 174-86 against the Sharks in a top 25 battle within the Sunshine State Conference.
Nino Viallon was the sole Moccasin with an event win in the dual meet with a majority of the podium spots in Nova Southeastern's favor.
The opening event of the meet started with an exciting race as the 200 medley relay was decided by less than half a second. A team of
Brandon Wilson, Travis Oleson, Viallon, and
Kyle Micallef ultimately finished second in a time of 1:31.32, just 0.41 seconds behind the NSU team. Next in the 1000 free,
Thomas Wooldridge finished with a third-place spot in 9:46.30. Third place went to the Mocs in the following event as well with
John Zeiger a 1:43.18 finish in the 200 free.
FSC had a great finish in the 100 back with second and third-place finishes behind Wilson (50.86) and
William Eriksson (54.43). The Mocs repeated the same results in the 100 breast as
Nicko Peristeridis (58.90) and
Ludwig Mueller (59.33) went back-to-back. Viallon nearly had the top time in the 200 fly (second with 1:53.54), but would later win the 100 fly in a time of 49.80. Preceding the event win,
Carson Blair finished third in the 50 free (22.14), Micallef second in the 100 free (46.00), Wilson second in the 200 back (1:53.72), and Peristeridis second (2:06.92) and Oleson third (2:13.01) in the 200 breast.
Wooldridge finished the day with a podium spot in the 500 free (4:46.08) and Christman third in the 200 IM (1:57.94). The final event of the meet was the 400 free relay that a team of Viallon, Wilson, Zeiger, and Micallef finished second in 3:02.53.
The Mocs stay in South Florida to face Lynn University tomorrow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the McCusker Pool Complex.
