MELBOURNE, Fla. - Domenica Zamora's career-high of 24 points leads the Florida Southern College women's basketball team to their first Sunshine State Conference victory with a 59-45 overtime win against Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon.

The Moccasins (8-5, 1-5 SSC) were led by Zamora with a new high for the graduate student, followed by
Marissa Jenike with nine points and
Arielle Dabu with eight. On the defensive end,
Amari Jackson was the leading force coming down with 10 boards.Â

Jenike got the scoring starting for the Mocs sinking a 3-pointer at 8:17, Dabu and
Sydney Gomes went on a 4-2 run with a layup and jumper that made it 7-2 after two minutes of play.Â

Florida Southern got out to a six-point lead with a Zamora shot beyond the arc to make it 10-4 and later from Jenike's second three making it 13-7 with just under four minutes left in the first quarter. Zamora gave the Mocs the biggest lead of the quarter with a made layup to make it 15-7 before ending the quarter, 17-12.Â

The second quarter opened with a shooting foul drawn by
Anna Denes hitting both shots to make it 19-12 at 8:59. Florida Tech's Tai Roberts scored four to cut within three points of FSC's lead but Dabu hit back-to-back layups to take back the Mocs seven-point lead, 23-16. Jenike sank her third 3-pointer to give Florida Southern the biggest quarter with a nine-point lead. The Panthers scored on a layup to go into the halftime break, 27-18.

Florida Tech opened up the second half with a 6-0 run, to come within one of FSC. Gomes gave the Mocs back a 29-26 lead on a driving layup with 7:44 on the clock. The Panthers got within one point again, but Zamora's fast break 3-point jumper kept the Mocs in the lead. FSC continued to add to its lead going on a 10-7 run to end the quarter up by seven, 42-35

In the fourth quarter, Florida Tech put pressure on FSC to tie the game and send it into overtime, 49-all.Â

In overtime, the Mocs got out to a three-point lead with Zamora scoring a layup and one to make it 52-49. The Panthers tried to come back to tie the game again, but the Moccasins' free throws gave FSC the first conference win of the year.Â

The Mocs return to action next Wednesday, Jan. 10 as they travel to Saint Leo to take on the Lions in another SSC matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
