WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Florida Southern College men's soccer team took a short trip down I-4 where they faced off against Rollins College in a Sunshine State Conference match-up makeup game from rescheduling due to Hurricane Helene back on October 9th.
The Moccasins (3-4-3) gave the Tars (4-5-1, 2-3-1) their first tie of the year but gave it everything they had with 17 shots to the FSCs nine with 14 shots coming in the second half for Rollins.
The first half started off with the Mocs being aggressive trying to bounce back from Saturday's road loss to #19 Florida Tech as FSC had five fouls within the first 10 minutes of action. Rollins had the first shot but it was
Mathias Kjølner with the only shot on goal in the first half. In the 16th minute, captain
Jay Skelcher-Maxwell headed the ball going just over the goal to keep the game scoreless.
Rollins controlled the next 10 minutes of action putting up another that went just off the top. In the 33rd minute, the Mocs
George Spencer's shot went just far-right and Kjolner shot was blocked taking FSC into the locker room scoreless.
The second half all eyes looked to Florida Southern's keeper
Lasse Dettmer as he faced 14 shots with three being on goal as the first one came in the 49th minute to start the second half off strong for Rollins. The Mocs had back-to-back shots from
Dylan Lowther and Spencer most missing to the left before the Tars went on an aggressive run with for shots in 10 minutes of action into the 70th minute where
Darcy Moffat had his first shot on goal with a stretched-out save from Tars keeper Jabari Gray.
In the 73rd and 74th minutes, Jorge Lameiras had two shots that went just left. In the 76th minute, the fate for the Mocs lay in the keepers Dettmers hands facing a penalty kick, his first of the season. With all eyes on Dettmer he dove left blocking the kickers PK but the Mocs would have to reset due to moving too soon allowing Lameiras to know where Dettmer was diving as his ball went right to put the first goal on the board for the Tars.
With time continuing to dwindle down, FSC turned the momentum in their direction as
Felix Tonne found the right foot of
Sonny Albert who sent the ball flying into the lower bottom left of the keeper to tie the game 1-1 in the 80th minute.
Both teams tried to break the tie but neither could find the back of the net to end in a 1-1 draw at the Barker Family Stadium.
Florida Southern continues action on the road traveling south to Nova Southeastern on Saturday, Oct. 26. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
