LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College men's soccer team hosted Embry-Riddle University in a Sunshine State Conference match where the game ended in a 0-0 draw. The Moccasins celebrated Senior Night with a pregame ceremony honoring 11 departing veterans:
Dino Leddie, Nyles Lockridge, Sam Michaels, Felix Tonne, Felix Aakerberg, Mathis Kjolner, Ethan Huggins, Sander Trevor, Matt Allred, Ruben Linden, and
Paul Hansen.
Â
The Mocs (3-5-4, 1-5-2 SSC) had the advantage in shots but were one short of the Eagles (4-7-3, 2-5-2) in shots on goal with three to two. In goal,
Lasse Dettmer collected three saves on the night while Salvatore della Valle had just two.Â
Â
Florida Southern controlled the attack for the opening minutes of the game, including an early shot on goal by
Dakota Henry in the second minute. The Eagles went on a three-shot run, and Dettmer earned his first save of the game from a high shot from Sandro Henning.Â
Â
Possession changes and good defense were the storyline halfway through the half, as Tonne and Kjolner both put shots up for the Mocs but neither team could find the back of the net.
Â
The second half was a fight as Linden and Trevor both had shots in opposite directions and
Jay Skelcher-Maxwell also put up a shot in the 57th minute but still nothing would fall for either team. The Eagles went on a short run having four shots in 10 minutes of play as the time dwindled down to the 70th minute.Â
Â
In the next couple of minutes, FSC had to fend off more ERAU attacks but
Darcy Moffat and three consecutive shots from
Sonny Albert, Marcus Steele, and Skelcer-Maxwell seemed to give the Mocs the momentum. The Eagles had just two more shots in the last eight minutes of action but the Mocs shots started to fire off.Â
Â
Moffat and
Dylan Lowther had shots saved by Embry-Riddle's keeper to add two shots on goal for the Mocs. With less than a minute remaining in the game Albert and Skelcher-Maxwell both tried to put FSC on top but the game ended in a 0-0 tie.Â
Â
Florida Southern led in shots (16) with 13 in the second half over the 13 shots total taken by Embry-Riddle. The Eagles led in shots on goal with three, though all were saved by Mocs keeper Dettmer. 10 Moccasins registered a shot in the game, with Skelcher-Maxwell and Albert leading the team with three shots on goal.
Â
The Mocs will hit the road to Miami Shores for a game against Barry on Saturday, Nov. 2, set for a 6 p.m. start.
