Several Top-10 Marks Set During Opening Indoor Meet

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Southern women's track team opened its 2025 indoor season Friday as 12 Moccasins were in action at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The Moccasins set top-10 program times in all three events in which they competed.

TOP PERFORMERS
  • The opening event for the Mocs was the mile as senior Emma Mussante and sophomore Grace Reed set top-10 times to lead a group of nine Mocs in the event. Mussante took 21st overall but was the top non-Division I runner in the event. The first seven FSC finishers were the top-seven non-Division I runners in the race which also included competitors from Embry-Riddle. Mussante's time of 5:13.75 ranked as the fourth-best time in program history while Reed stopped the clock at 5:15.10 to take 23rd overall and seventh in the FSC record book. The next two Moccasin finishers were sophomore Kira Mothershed and graduate student Ellie Fluman who took 28th and 31st, respectively. Mothershed crossed the line in 5:21.66 while Fluman came across in 5:24.72. The final five Moccasin finishers were junior Caitlin Beery (33rd, 5:25.66), freshman Alena Pezzoli (36th, 5:27.35), sophomore Emma Nales-Torchio (37th, 5:27.86), freshman Katrina Machado (50th, 5:39.03) and freshman Kira Casane (56th, 6:05.43).
  • Beery, Pezzoli and Machado went on to compete in the 800m and were joined by graduate student Jinia Johnson. Beery and Johnson led the way as they finished 20th and 23rd, respectively. Beery posted the sixth-best time in program history while Johnson earned the ninth-best time. The pair now own six of the top-10 times at FSC. Beery clocked in at 2:25.28 while Johnson came across in 2:27.33. Pezzoli came in just behind Johnson in 24th at 2:27.66. The final FSC finisher was Machado who placed 37th at 2:47.15.
  • The final event for FSC was the 3000m where six Mocs competed. Three of the six posted top-10 program times including Mussante, Reed and Fluman. Mussante placed 15th overall while turning in the third-best time in program history at 10:20.01. Reed was next across for FSC at 10:32.69 which earned her 23rd overall and 5th in the record book. The final record book performance came from Fluman who took 25th in 10:33.91 to take 6th in the performance list. Junior Rachel Hockenberry came in five spots back in 30th at 10:45.98 while senior Mya Stam placed 34th in 10:51.19. The final FSC finisher was Casane who took 51st in 11:44.49.

The Moccasins will be back in action in Gainesville Jan. 24-25 to compete in the RADD Sports College Invitational.
