NEW ORLEANS – The Florida Southern College women's cross country team along with five individuals were recognized for their success in the classroom as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) selected 121 NCAA Division II women's teams for their 2024 All-Academic Team honors while 392 individuals were honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes.
The Florida Southern runners named All-Academic Athletes included four-time honoree graduate student
Ellie Fluman, three-time selection senior
Emma Mussante, two-time honorees sophomore
Grace Reed and graduate student
Cheyenne Young along with first-time honoree sophomore
Emma Pfeiffer.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-30 percent of their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.
The Florida Southern women posted a 3.57 GPA. FSC was one of just seven programs from the state of Florida to receive the honor including West Florida (3.54 GPA), Nova Southeastern (3.54 GPA), Lynn (3.49 GPA), Embry-Riddle (3.415 GPA), Flagler (3.39 GPA) and Tampa (3.34 GPA), .
Adams State was named the 2024 NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year. The Grizzlies, who maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.63, won the team title at the 2024 NCAA DII Cross Country Championships in Sacramento, California. This is the tenth time in program history that Adams State has been named Women's Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year. The Grizzlies were also honored in 2022, 2021, 2019, 2017, 2015, 2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period and compile a team score at their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.
Lauren Kiley of Grand Valley State was named the 2024 NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year. Kiley, who hails from Canton, Michigan, and owns a cumulative GPA of 3.317, won the individual title at the 2024 NCAA DII Cross Country Championships in Sacramento, California. This is the sixth time in program history that an athlete from Grand Valley State has been named Women's Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year. Kiley joins 2021 honoree Hannah Becker, 2018 honoree Sarah Berger, 2015 and 2016 honoree Kendra Foley and 2014 honoree Jessica Janecke in that regard.
Fluman, Mussante, Pfeiffer, Reed and Young led the Mocs to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Division II South Region Championship. Fluman led the way individually among this group with a 29
th-place showing. The rest of the academic Mocs all finished within the top-53 of the event.
The Moccasins are now in the middle of the indoor track season.
