Women's Soccer Narrowly Falls to #13 Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Florida Southern College women's soccer was edged out by No. 13 Nova Southeastern University 1-0 on Saturday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.

The first half began with Carly Brodsky in goal for Florida Southern College, who quickly demonstrated her defensive capabilities by saving a shot from the Sharks' Genesis Hernandez in the 9th minute. Despite this early defensive effort, the Sharks took the lead in the 14th minute with a goal from Sofia Suarez, assisted by Hernandez.

Florida Southern attempted to respond offensively, with Aliya Roberts taking a shot in the 19th minute, but it went wide. Liliana Jeffries also tried to level the score with a shot in the 38th minute, which similarly missed the target. Throughout the half, Brodsky continued to be active in goal, making crucial saves to keep the deficit at one. The half concluded with the Mocs trailing 1-0.

The second half began with the Sharks holding a narrow one-goal lead. FSC's Madison Male attempted to tie the game with a shot in the 55th minute, but the effort went wide. Despite continued pressure, including a shot by Ellie Dossantos in the 75th minute and another by Isabella Payne in the 83rd, the Mocs could not find the back of the net.

Brodsky made a critical save in the 82nd minute on a low shot from Hernandez, keeping the game close. The Moccasins absorbed multiple fouls from the opposition, maintaining composure as the half progressed. The match concluded without a change in score, ending with the Mocs trailing 1-0.

Brodsky made four saves in the match, facing eight shots and allowing one goal. Payne and Dossantos each attempted one shot during the game. Julia Zdanowski contributed defensively, maintaining a strong backline presence.

Hernandez contributed with one assist and led the Sharks with three shots, two of which were on goal. Suarez scored the only and game-winning goal from her two shots. Goalkeeper Gretchen Duttenhofer secured a shutout, playing the full 90 minutes without conceding any goals while facing five shots.

Looking ahead, FSC is set to host Embry-Riddle on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. ET. The game will take place at Berend Field in Lakeland, Fla., and will be the Mocs' final regular-season home game.
