LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College women's soccer (7-2-5, 3-2-4 SSC) and No. 22 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (6-0-8, 4-0-5 SSC) played to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night at Berend Field.
The first half began with Florida Southern taking an early lead as
Isabella Payne scored in the third minute, assisted by
Sammie Markey and
Ellie Dossantos. The home team maintained offensive pressure, with
Aliya Roberts coming close to extending the lead, hitting the right woodwork in the 33rd minute and forcing a save from the Eagles goalkeeper shortly after. FSC's defense, anchored by
Carly Brodsky in goal, successfully kept the Eagles from scoring, preserving a 1-0 advantage at the end of the half.
The second half began with a notable momentum shift as Embry-Riddle's Lauryn Mateo scored in the 64th minute, assisted by a corner kick by Berglind Thrastardottir, equalizing the match at 1-1. Florida Southern's defense worked to regain control, but the Eagles maintained pressure with multiple corner kicks and shots on goal.
Jasmin Adames attempted to break the deadlock for the Mocs with a shot in the 83rd minute, but it was saved by Stella Roane. The half concluded with the score level at 1-1, as both teams held firm defensively.
Payne scored one goal on her only shot. Dossantos provided an assist, and Markey also recorded an assist, contributing to the team's scoring opportunities. Brodsky, playing as goalkeeper, made one save while facing 11 shots.
Mateo contributed to the Eagles with a goal, while also leading her team in shots with two, one of which was on target. Thrastardottir provided the assist on the corner kick. In defense, goalkeeper Roane made two saves, facing six shots and allowing one goal. Anna Marisa Lara led the team with four shots, one of them on goal.
In their next game, Florida Southern will face Barry University on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. ET. The matchup will take place at Buccaneer Field in Miami Shores, Florida.
