LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's cross country earned its second victory of the season Friday morning at the 26th Annual FLRunners.com Invitational as the Moccasins posted a perfect score of 15 points, led by senior
Simon DeVoss who earned his first career victory. The two victories mark the first time since 2016 that the Mocs have won two regular-season meets. DeVoss victory is the first regular-season individual win for the Mocs since 2021 when
Mason Jones (2017-21) won the Valdosta State Border Clash.
FSC topped the eight-team field including finishing ahead of Sunshine State Conference foes Tampa (2
nd/50 pts.), Palm Beach Atlantic (3
rd/101 pts.), Lynn (4
th/112 pts.) and Eckerd (7
th/191 pts.).
The Mocs filled the top nine spots on the individual leaderboard for a perfect score of 15. DeVoss led the way in first as he completed the 8K course in 26:09.47. Juniors
William Canales and
Cameron Raney rounded out the top-three as Canales crossed the line in 26:15.62 followed by Raney in 26:24.10. The two final scorers in fourth and fifth, respectively, were junior
Trevor Cross and freshman
Denny Olsen. Cross crossed the finish in 26:32.01 while Olsen stopped the clock at 26:35.58.
The second group of five for the Mocs, which would have placed second if running as a second team, was led by junior
Declan Ziomek who took sixth in 26:40.83. Freshmen
Parker Graham and
Jack Girard were the next two Moccasins across the line with Graham taking seventh in 26:42.05 followed by Girard in eighth at 26:42.62. The final two members of the second five were sophomores
Tyler Gaines and
Andrew Nyland. Gaines claimed a top-10 finish in ninth with a mark of 26:48.18 while Nyland came in four spots back in 13
th with a time of 27:06.18.
Six additional Mocs competed in the race as well, ranging from 14
th-place to 48
th.
The Moccasins will next be in action Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Lewis Crossover in Romeoville, Ill.
