LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College men's soccer (4-5-1, 1-4-0 SSC) fell to Rollins College (5-2-2, 2-1-1 SSC) by a score of 3-2 at the Barnett Athletic Complex on Wednesday.
The first half began with FSC's goalkeeper
Lasse Dettmer establishing a strong presence in goal. The Moccasins found their breakthrough in the 15th minute when
Tim Baierlein scored, assisted by
Pablo Overfeld and
Joao Lopes, to take the lead. Florida Southern maintained their offensive efforts with multiple shots on goal, but Rollins managed to equalize in the 36th minute through Jaden Splunge. Both teams continued to create chances, but the half concluded with the score level at 1-1.
The second half began with Rollins taking control early, as Daniel Keripe scored in the 52nd minute to extend their lead. Florida Southern responded with multiple offensive efforts, including Baierlein's shot saved by Kilian Vallant, maintaining pressure on Rollins' defense. However, Rollins capitalized again shortly after, with Finlay Prain finding the net in the 54th minute to make it 3-1.
The Mocs continued to push forward, and Baierlein finally broke through in the 81st minute, narrowing the gap to 3-2. Despite several attempts, including a late shot by
Hector Oliver, FSC couldn't find the equalizer. The half concluded with Rollins holding their lead, ending the match 3-2 in favor of the visitors.
Baierlein scored two goals and led the team with seven shots, three of which were on goal. Overfeld contributed with an assist, marking his presence in the defensive lineup. Lopes also added an assist and took four shots. Dettmer made four saves while facing 15 shots in goal for the Mocs.
Jaden Splunge made his mark for Rollins with a goal from his single shot, which was also on target. Teagen Vallant stood firm in goal, making four saves across 90 minutes, facing 21 shots and conceding two goals. Yousef Shakweer provided a crucial assist while also contributing three shots, with one on target. Keripe was instrumental with both a goal and an assist, landing all three of his shots on target. Prain scored the game-winning goal, taking two shots with one on target.
In their next game, Florida Southern College travels to Tampa, Fla., to face off against the No.18 University of Tampa. The match is set for October 15 at 7 p.m. at UT Pepin Stadium.
