LAKELAND, Fla. – Four home runs, including three from
Ahmad Fitts, lifted the Florida Southern College baseball team to a 12-2 win against Eckerd College on Tuesday night at Henley Field.
The Moccasins (6-1), who are ranked No. 24 according to the latest D2 Baseball poll, had a big night by Fitts with three homers, including a grand slam and walk-off solo homer to run-rule the Tritons. Eckerd (2-5) managed a sacrifice fly and solo homer to tally two runs but could not keep up with the Mocs, for the 12-2 score after two batters in the bottom eighth inning. This was the 200
th matchup between these two teams, with Florida Southern leading the overall series 156-44.
Florida Southern dominated with 10 hits on the night as Fitts led the team with a 3-for-4 outing, each hit over the fence, and six RBI. His three homers are the most by a single player since Zach Scott hit three home runs versus Lynn on April 2, 2021.
Mikey Scott hit his second home of 2025 as a two-run shot, with five other Moccasins registering a hit.
Grant Thoroman was the other Mocs with a multi-hit day, with two RBI to finish.
Canyon Marcewicz registered his first collegiate hit with a single late in the game, followed by
Wyatt Campbell,
Jevin Relaford, and
Rohsean Riley all with one hit.
Logan Adams had the start for FSC, going five innings for the win. He allowed just one hit and one run with three strikeouts and one walk. He was relieved by
Tanner Quick and
Lucas Perez who each made their first appearance of 2025 on the mound, with
BJ Rivera and
Robert Tracy III with time as well. Adams was credited with the win, his first of 2025, the fourth of his career at FSC.
Eckerd finished with three hits on the night, one each by Kam Gelwick, Luis Garrido, and Ryan Gargett. Reid Lisle had a sac fly to score in the sixth and a solo homer by Gargett in the fifth were the only runs scored by the Tritons. Jacob Thomas was handed the loss after 2.2 innings pitched and two earned runs.
Florida Southern scored quickly with an RBI single by Thoroman in the first inning and followed with three runs in the third inning featuring a two-run homer by Scott and an RBI single by Riley. FSC tacked on two more runs in the fourth off another RBI single by Thoroman and an Eckerd error. Fitts had his first homer of the day as a solo shot to center field, his first hit of 2025. He then smashed a grand slam, the first since May 10, 2024, when Riley and
Jack Duffy each had a grand slam in a 22-6 win over Florida Tech. The final run of the game was a solo homer by Fitts in the bottom of the eighth inning to go up 12-2 and reach the 10 run-rule for this midweek game.
The Mocs will host USC Beaufort this weekend in a three-day, three-game series from Feb. 14-16. FSC will also have Champions Weekend welcoming back baseball alumni and a ceremony celebrating the anniversaries of the 1975, 1985, 1995, and 2005 national championship teams.
