LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College women's basketball dropped its Wednesday matchup against RV Nova Southeastern University 77-39 at the Streamline Sale Court at the George W. Jenkins Field House.
The Moccasins (10-14, 5-12 SSC) were led by
Arriyana Bracero and
Bre'Asia Washington both dishing out seven points, followed by
Dakota Daniello with six and
Sydney Gomes with five. On the defensive side,
Catalina Ion came down with eight boards.
The Sharks (20-5, 13-4 SSC) had two finish in double-figures with Payton Graber putting up 19 points and Michaela Cloonan with 18 points.
Nova Southeastern jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first three minutes of action as Florida Southern tried to get their bearings. It was a foul that sent Gomes to the line for the first Mocs points hitting both to make it 8-2.
Gomes sank a shot beyond the arc to make it 8-5, but the Sharks hit a layup and went 2-for-2 from the line to give NSUÂ a 7-point lead.
Lily Randgaard put up two on a jumper followed by a layup from Lange and made free throw from Washington as FSC cut the Sharks lead down to 2-points. Nova Southeastern hit 3-pointer to close out the first quarter and go into the second quarter with a 15-10 advantage.
Gianna Vos opened the quarter cutting the Sharks lead to three with jumper but a shot beyond the arc put NSU back up by three. Florida Southern continued to rally with the Sharks cutting their lead down to four on a fastbreak 3-pointer from Bracero with six minutes left in the first half. A 12-4 run gave Nova Southeastern a 35-23 lead as they headed to the locker room for halftime.
In the third quarter, the Mocs struggled to find the basket only scoring six points with free throws from Bracero and layups from Daniello and Washington as the Sharks jumped out to a 30-point lead.
Nova Southeastern never let up the pressure opening the final quarter with a 6-0 run that was cut off by a Daniello layup, 65-31. Washington hit both free throws to cut the lead, but the Sharks 7-2 run kept pushing the game out of reach for FSC.
Vos made both her free throws after being fouled but the Sharks earned the win finishing with a 5-2 run to win, 77-39.

Florida Southern returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. against Saint Leo University where the Moccasins will honor its three seniors prior to the tip off,
Arriyana Bracero,
Anna Denes, and
Sarah Lange.
