LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 6 Florida Southern College baseball team rallied in the final innings to walk off against Barry University by a 9-8 score on Friday night at Henley Field.
The Moccasins (12-2, 3-1 SSC) overcame a 7-3 deficit, ending with a walk-off hit by
Mikey Scott to win the game. The Buccaneers (6-8, 0-4 SSC) kept FSC to three runs over the first five innings but were unable to finish the job in the bottom ninth.
Scott led the team with three hits and the walk-off RBI to win tonight's game.
Rohsean Riley extended his hit streak to 10 games after adding three hits.
Cleary Simpson, Cory Filley, and
Jevin Relaford each had two hits, with
Grant Thoroman, Ahmad Fitts, and
Noah Rabin the final Moccasins to tally a hit for the team's total of 15.
Jack Duffy drew three walks and a HBP to reach base in each of his plate appearances, adding a run. FSC had three stolen bases as a team, one each by Scott, Thoroman, and Rabin.
Sachem Ramos had the start for FSC and went five innings, giving up seven runs and five strikeouts. He was relieved by
BJ Rivera, who had a good 3.1 innings pitched and three strikeouts.
Robert Tracy III then faced three batters before
Wyatt Clark entered to retire the top of the ninth inning, earning his second win of the season after the walk-off by Scott.
Barry had 10 hits as a team, two each from Bruno and Delgado. Segura had the only home run of the day, with five total stolen bases by the Buccaneers. Eich had the start for Barry and went four innings. The loss was handed to Denton, who entered in the ninth and gave up three hits, two runs, and two walks in the 9-8 loss.
The game opened with two runs by the Buccaneers and just a single run by FSC in the second inning off a wild pitch for a 2-1 score in the first three innings. Barry had a big fourth inning with three runs scored, though FSC responded with two runs, including an RBI single by Simpson. The Bucs added another two runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-3 lead, though it was short-lived as FSC staged a comeback. Wild pitches and errors scored two runs in the sixth inning, followed by an RBI single by Relaford in the seventh, and sacrifice fly in the eighth by Rabin to tie the game, 7-7. Barry had an RBI single in the ninth to take the lead, and a walk-off was needed for FSC to win it.
Wyatt Campbell had a leadoff walk, followed by a single by Filley in the next at-bat. Relaford singled and advanced on an error, which scored one run to tie the game. With the bases loaded on an intentional walk, Scott hit a big shot to left field to bring in the game-winning run.
The Mocs will be back for a doubleheader tomorrow, March 1, set to begin at 1 p.m. at Henley Field.
