Zuppa Sets Freshman Record at Celebration Pointe Indoor Classic

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Eli Zuppa of the Florida Southern College men's track team broke the FSC Freshman Record in the 3,000m breaking Christian Giller's record set back in 2023. In total, the Mocs posted six top-10 all-time marks for the program Friday at the Celebration Pointe Classic.

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Zuppa competed in the final event of the day, the 3,000m. He led a group of four Mocs in the event as he took fifth overall while completing the distance in 8:25.40. The time sets a new Freshman Record and also ranks as the fourth-fastest mark in school history. Senior Aiden Redmond came in four spots back in ninth as he finished just under 10 seconds later at 8:35.35. Senior Seth Augustynowski stopped the clock at 8:42.53 to claim 12th followed by sophomore Declan Ziomek in 19th at 9:00.59.
  • The opening event of the day for FSC was the 5,000m which featured eight FSC runners. Freshman Andrew Nyland claimed a top-10 finish in sixth with the eighth fastest time in program history at 14:50.06. Junior Caleb Brady, sophomore William Canales and redshirt senior Joshua Kraver went back-to-back-to-back in 14th, 15th and 16th. Brady crossed the line in 15:06.46, Canales came in at 15:09.80 while Kraver stopped the clock at 15:13.25. The next pair of Mocs to complete the distance were sophomores Cameron Raney and Dylan Bailey who came in 19th and 20th. Raney clocked in at 15:23.26 while Bailey claimed 15:24.20. The final two Moccasin finishers were freshman Daniel Welling (28th, 15:46.88) and junior Karl van Gelder (31st, 15:59.11).
  • Junior Luke Reeves became the first Moccasin in program history to compete in the 400m. He set a new program mark of 53.76 while taking 49th.
  • Two top-10 all-time performances came in the mile as sophomore Simon DeVoss and Redmond claimed spots in the record book. DeVoss ran the sixth fastest time in program history at 4:11.18 while placing ninth. Redmond came in four spots back in 13th with the eighth fastest time in program history at 4:13.08. The final Moc in the event was Augustynowski who took 27th in 4:22.89.
  • DeVoss claimed a second spot in the record book as he ran the fifth fastest time in program history in the 800m. His time of 1:54.60 earned him seventh in the event while Nyland took 45th in 2:04.39.
 
UP NEXT:
The Moccasins will be back in action next weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass.
