Colavita, Toppi Lead Florida Southern to Third-Place Finish at SSC Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Florida Southern College men's track team showcased a strong performance at the 2026 Sunshine State Conference Outdoor Track Championships. The Moccasins finished third overall with 69 points after scoring 27 on Saturday.

Middle Distance  
In the 800m, senior Anthony Matthew placed eighth in the finals with a time of 1:57.76, scoring a point, after finishing fifth in the preliminaries on Friday. 

In the 1500m, Matthew secured fourth place with a time of 3:50.53, earning five points. The time also ranked seventh in the FSC Record Book. Sophomore Andrew Nyland followed closely in fifth place at 3:50.76, scoring four points, and securing the ninth-best time in program history. Sophomore Daniel Welling and freshman Parker Graham finished 12th and 18th with times of 3:57.56 and 4:05.70, respectively.  

Distance  
Senior Chris Colavita placed second in the 5000m at 15:04.38, adding eight points, after winning the 10K Friday night. Junior Michael Toppi claimed third at 15:06.49 for six points. Junior Cole Summers finished seventh at 15:11.41 for two points. Sophomore Eli Zuppa took 11th at 15:26.68. Nyland finished 13th with a time of 15:45.54.  
 
5,000m Podium at 2026 SSC Championships

Sprints  
The Mocs' 4x100m Relay team, consisting of sophomore Tyler Gaines, senior Caleb Brady, junior Dillon Mantei, and junior Declan Ziomek, placed eighth with a time of 58.91, scoring one point. The 4x400m Relay team, featuring Brady, Mantei, Welling, and Gaines, finished ninth with a time of 3:37.47 which ranks fourth in the FSC Record Book. 

Team Scoring
The University of Tampa earned its first SSC Men's Outdoor Track Championship with 114 points to edge host Embry-Riddle who finished with 110 points. The Moccasins rounded out the top-three with 69 points. Lynn (51 pts.) claimed fourth followed by Nova Southeastern (37 pts.) in fifth. The final five teams included Florida Tech (25), Saint Leo (24), Barry (22), Eckerd (6) and Palm Beach Atlantic (6).
