Women’s Track Closes Out Indoor Season in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Southern women's track team closed out the indoor portion of their 2025 season. The Moccasins continued to rewrite the record book as six top-10 all-time performances took place Friday. The 2025 indoor campaign for the Mocs featured new school records in four of the five events that the Mocs ran in 2025 including two from senior Emma Mussante.

TOP PERFORMERS
  • The opening event of the meet for the Mocs was the 5,000m as senior Mya Stam was the lone FSC entrant. Stam completed the 5K in 18:31.92 to take seventh overall. The time also marked the second-fastest this season by FSC and eighth in the record book.
  • Freshman Lylah Mattingly became the first Moccasin in school history to compete in the indoor 400m as she established a new school record of 1:05.03 while taking 39th overall.
  • FSC sent seven runners to the line in the mile. Mussante led the way as she posted the second fastest mile in program history at 5:06.62 while placing ninth. Nine spots later, junior Caitlin Beery claimed the sixth-fastest time in program history while stopping the clock at 5:13.67. Sophomore Grace Reed was right on Beery's heels as she finished in 5:13.81 to place 19th overall and eighth in the FSC record book. The next four Mocs all finished within eight spots of each other. Graduate student Jinia Johnson led the group with a time of 5:24.71 while placing 37th. Three spots later in 40th, sophomore Emma Nales-Torchio clocked in at 5:26.48. Freshman Alena Pezzoli came in just three tenths of a second later at 5:26.78 to place 41st. The final FSC finisher was junior Rachel Hockenberry in 44th with a time of 5:33.03.
  • The final entrant into the FSC record book was Johnson who placed 25th in the 800m with the eighth fastest time in program history at 2:25.27. Beery came in five spots back in 30th at 2:29.54.
  • The final event of the 2025 indoor season was the 3,000m. Freshman Kira Casane and senior Emily Opalinski represented the Mocs with Casane placing 24th in 11:16.81 while Opalinski claimed 31st with a time of 12:22.75.
 
UP NEXT:
The Moccasins will begin the outdoor season Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Tampa Spartans Open.
