HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Florida Southern College women's tennis opened up action in the annual spring break trip in Hilton Head as they went 2-0 on day one. The Moccasins (4-2) defeated Tiffin 5-1, before a dominating performance against Lake Superior State 7-0.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 5, TIFFIN 1
The Mocs opened up play with a dominating 5-1 win over Tiffin as the Dragon earned the first point in doubles winning two of the three matches. The win in doubles went to the #3 pairing as
Jolie Miller and
Annika Berrendorf won 6-2. At the #2 court
Ronja Scheuermann and
Emily Jennewein battled it out with their Tiffin opponent falling 7-5.
In singles action is where the Mocs shined as they earned the win with all matches going in favor of the Mocs minus the match that resulted unfinished.
At the sixth court, Miller earned a 6-0, 6-2 win to tie the game 1-1. The fifth court of Berrendorf took a 2-1 lead with a 6-1,6-0 final. Scheuermann brought FSC up to a 3-1 lead as the sophomore won both sets 6-2.
Senior
Olivia Bryant captured the win earning the fourth point in favor of the Mocs as she won 6-4 in both sets. Jennewein forced the tiebreaker in the second set but won to finish her match with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win to give Florida Southern a 5-1 win to open play.
FLORIDA SOUTHERN 7, LAKE SUPERIOR 0
The Mocs won all three double courts to open the match as Jennewein and Scheuermann won 6-0 for the first win and
Kennedi Brown and
Kelly Klaren followed with a 6-1 win to give the Mocs the doubles point.
Karina Bazilevych and
Vivien Charvatova also won their court to sweep the doubles with a 6-3 win on court three.
The singles matches finished with Mocs dominating on every court as the first win went to
Beatriz Costa at court winning 6-0, 6-2.
Olivia Bryant won the #1 singles slot with a 6-1, 6-3 final score before Klaren won 6-2, 6-1 to win the overall match for the Mocs to make it 4-0.
FSC continued to perform as Charvatova won 6-2, 6-1, followed by
Elin Axler with a 6-1, 6-4 final and Brown winning her match after a first set tiebreaker 7-6 (9-7), 6-4.
Florida Southern returns to action tomorrow bright and early as they face University of North Carolina Wilmington in the final game of the spring break trip. The first serve is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
