ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's track team closed up competition at the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Central Florida Saturday. Junior
Anthony Matthew led the way for the Moccasins, for the second day-in-a-row, as he posted his personal best time in the 800m, which also ranks third all-time for FSC.

- Junior Anthony Matthew led a trio of Moccasins in the 800m Saturday night. Matthew's time of 1:51.25 ranks third in the FSC record book. Matthew took 15th overall, but was the second NCAA Division II finisher in the field. Sophomore Simon DeVoss stopped the clock next for the Mocs as he crossed the line in 1:54.66 to take 35th. The final FSC runner on the track was freshman Andrew Nyland who completed the distance in 1:57.95 to take 60th.
- The final event of the day for FSC was the 2,000m steeplechase. It marked just the second time all-time the Mocs have competed in the 2K steeplechase and the first time occurred in 2019 at this same Black and Gold Invitational. The four Moccasins in action Saturday set the new top four times in FSC history in the event. Graduate student Elijah De La Cerda set a new program record of 6:00.05 while taking seventh overall. Junior Caleb Brady finished just behind De La Cerda in eighth while clocking in at 6:12.43. Sophomore Dillon Mantei stopped the clock at 6:22.16 to take 10th followed by freshman Tyler Gaines, who became the first freshman in program history to run the event, in 12th with a time of 6:25.84. Gaines's time establishes a new Freshman Record for the program.

The Moccasins will be back in action Thursday and Friday, March 27-28, as they travel to the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Mo.
