LAKELAND, Fla. – Both the Florida Southern College indoor and beach volleyball teams joined a record number of volleyball programs by earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT for their respective performances in the classroom. The two Moccasin programs were two of over 1,450 collegiate and high school programs to earn the honor.

Just 14 NCAA Division II beach programs earned the honor including the Mocs. FSC was joined on the list by Barry, Carson-Newman, Chaminade, Colorado Mesa, Concordia-Irvine, Eckerd, Emmanuel, Hawai'i Pacific, Spring Hill, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Tusculum, Vanguard, and Wayne State.

The indoor program has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award 19 times dating back to 1993-94 and has captured the honor for the last 18 straight academic years. The beach program collected its eighth consecutive award; receiving the recognition since the program started. A total of 158 NCAA Division II indoor volleyball programs earned the distinction including nine from the Sunshine State Conference.

The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
