Pete Meyer SSC Hall of Fame Announcement

Meyer Selected for 2025 SSC Hall of Fame Class

Aug 01, 2025

LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College's longtime Head Baseball Coach and Athletic Director Pete Meyer has been selected to the 2025 Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame Class. Meyer spent over two decades at Florida Southern including serving as the Athletic Director for his final 11 years on campus.

Meyer, a Florida Southern College Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2018 member, captured the 2005 National Championship while at the helm of the FSC Baseball team. As a coach, he developed over 40 major league baseball signees. He led the Moccasins to six NCAA Tournaments and posted an incredible 308-139-1 record. During his time as the Athletic Director, he oversaw two SSC Scholar-Athletes of the Year, seven NCAA Elite 90 award winners, and more than 40 Academic All-Americans. His tenure as AD featured four National Championships, 12 individual National Champions, 33 SSC titles, and finished as national runner-up six times in four different sports.

"We are honored to have Pete as our representative for Florida Southern in the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame Class of 2025," said Drew Howard, Director of Athletics and Dean of Wellness. "He brought tremendous leadership both at Florida Southern but also within the Sunshine State Conference. The imprint he left at Florida Southern over his two decades-plus of service will be felt for many years to come."

Meyer took over the helm of the Moccasin baseball program halfway through the 2002 season, leading FSC to a Regional Championship and a fifth-place finish at the National Championship. After a pair of Regional Championship Runner-up finishes in 2003 and 2004, Meyer found the formula in 2005 guiding the Moccasins to a 51-11 record and the SSC, South Region and National Championships. It mark just the third time in program history the Moccasins had won all three out-right in the same season. After six and a half seasons, Meyer stepped away from the diamond to focus on his new role as Athletic Director which he earned following the 2008 baseball season. Just two and a half years later, Meyer would have to step back on the diamond midway through the 2011 season to lead the Moccasins. He went 25-10 over the final 35 games of the season. He held the head coach position for one more season in 2012 before stepping away once again to focus solely on athletic administration.

Meyer was joined by nine others in the 2025 Hall of Fame Class including Rollins' Women's Tennis Coach Beverly "Bev" Buckley, former Eckerd baseball standout Bill Evers, former Florida Tech rowing coach and athletic director Bill Jurgens, Senior Major Gift Officer from Lynn Gregory Malfitano, former Nova Southeastern women's soccer star Stephanie Quinones, former Saint Leo men's soccer coach and director of athletics Francis X. Reidy, former Barry men's golfer Daniel Stapf, former Palm Beach Atlantic Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Carolyn Stone and former University of Tampa President Ronald L. Vaughn.

The league will usher in the 10 newest Hall of Fame members on Saturday, October 4, during the SSC Hall of Fame Brunch and Celebration. The event will take place in Miami Shores, Fla. on the campus of Barry University.

The SSC Hall of Fame was founded in 1991 to honor those who have made outstanding contributions to the league. Its purpose is to perpetuate the memory of those who brought distinction, honor, and excellence to the league. Conference officials selected a charter class in 1992, with 21 individuals honored. The 2025 class brings the number of SSC Hall of Fame inductees to 223.
