Saslo Added to Florida Southern Swimming Coaching Staff

Saslo, a former FSC swimmer, joins as an assistant swimming coach and aquatics assistant

LAKELAND, Fla. – Steven Bostick, head coach of the Florida Southern College swimming teams, announced the hire of JJ Saslo '22 as an assistant swimming coach and aquatics assistant.

"We are excited to welcome back JJ to Florida Southern as an assistant swimming coach," said Bostick. "JJ was a standout athlete for the Moccasins and will be a great addition to the coaching staff to shape our 2025-26 team and enhance the overall aquatics program at FSC."

Saslo began his coaching career in 2019 with PYP Suncoast Swim Team in Florida before serving as Head Developmental Coach for the Zephyrhills and Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCAs. In 2022, he joined Birmingham-Southern College as the men's and women's assistant swim coach, where he worked primarily with the sprint and freestyle groups. During his tenure, Saslo guided athletes to multiple school records and helped lead the men's program to its ninth Southern Athletic Association (SAA) championship in his first season.

Following the closure of Birmingham-Southern, Saslo joined Excel Aquatics in Tennessee. At Excel, he coached multiple state champions in the women's 100 fly, 100 breast, and 500 free, with one swimmer earning Middle Tennessee Female Swimmer of the Year honors. He also guided a U.S. Nationals finalist and coached the 2025 Eastern Section of the Southern Zone (ESSZ) 11–12 Boys High Point winner, further solidifying his reputation for developing talent across age groups.

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to give back to my alma mater and contribute to the program that shaped me into the person I am today," said Saslo. "The culture and atmosphere are unparalleled, and I am excited to be back. Let's Go Mocs!"

As a student-athlete at Florida Southern College, Saslo was a four-time conference team swimmer, NCAA All-American in the 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay, and team captain during the 2021–22 season. He remains ranked on multiple all-time top-ten lists at FSC, including the 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, and 200 medley relay. Saslo earned his bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in criminology from Florida Southern in 2022. He completed his Master of Science in Sports Management from Troy University in 2024.
