WILSON, N.C. — Florida Southern men's soccer (2-0-0, 0-0-0) recorded a 2-0 victory over Barton College (1-1-0, 0-0-0) at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex on Sunday, maintaining a clean sheet with two saves in the second half to secure the win.
Senior
Darcy Moffat notched his 10th career goal in a Moccasin uniform, while sophomore
Tim Baierlein found the back of the net for the second straight game. In goal, senior
Lasse Dettmer secured his second consecutive shutout and the fifth clean sheet of his career to highlight the night. The Moccasins faced the Bulldogs for the first time in program history.
The first half saw both teams actively seeking an advantage, with Florida Southern pressing early and taking multiple shots on goal. Sophomore
Chandler Crawshaw initiated the offensive efforts with a shot in the ninth minute, while graduate student
Daniel Shabani's attempt in the 12th minute was saved. FSC maintained pressure through frequent corner kicks, with freshman
Joao Lopes and graduate student
Paul Hansen also contributing shots, but the half concluded scoreless as both defenses held firm.
The second half commenced with the Mocs asserting control, culminating in Baierlein's goal in the 68th minute, breaking the deadlock. Despite Barton's efforts to respond, including multiple shots saved by Dettmer, the Mocs maintained their lead. Moffat extended the advantage with a goal in the 79th minute, assisted by sophomore
Hector Oliver, securing a 2-0 victory for the visiting team.
Baierlein scored the game-winning goal with one of his three shots on target for FSC. Moffat added to the team's tally with a goal from two shots, one of which was on goal. Dettmer posted a shutout, making two saves to secure the victory. Oliver contributed with an assist, enhancing the team's offensive efforts.
Devin Agostinelli led Barton with four saves, facing 11 shots and conceding two goals over 51 minutes. Pedro Bonfa also contributed defensively with one save in 38 minutes of play, facing six shots without allowing a goal. On the offensive side, Hayden Summerfield and Akos Tajtyi each registered two shots, with one shot on goal apiece.
In their next game, Florida Southern will host Christian Brothers University on September 12, with action kicking off at 4:30 p.m. at Berend Field in Lakeland, Fla. The Mocs will look to capitalize on their home advantage in this matchup.
