OCALA, Fla. - The Florida Southern College men's swimming team had a new program record set on day three of the Sunshine State Conference Championships on Friday night at the FAST Center.
Daniel Meszaros set the new record for the Moccasins in the 200 free in tonight's championship final, finishing with a time of 1:35.35, breaking the previous record set by Jesus Martin in 2015 (1:35.99). Meszaros finished second in the event, the best placement of the night by FSC.
After three days, the Mocs sit in fourth place overall with 217 points. The University of Tampa is in first with 478 points, followed by Lynn University with 268.5 points, and Nova Southeastern University in third with 266 points.
Nino Viallon opened the evening finals for Florida Southern on a high note, finishing fourth in the 100 fly A final with a time of 47.69. As part of the 400 IM,
Bennett Baer won the consolation final with a time of 3:58.03, nearly four seconds faster than his prelims time. In the A final,
Simeon Prosinski was just outside the podium, finishing fourth overall with a time of 3:54.27.
FSC had plenty of representation in the 200 free, starting with the B final as
Daniel Cushing finished in sixth with a time of 1:39.17, followed by
Will Neville in eighth of the consolation final with a time of 1:42.40. Highlighting the evening individuals,
Meszaros finished in second overall of the 200 free with a time of 1:35.35, setting the new program record.
The final event of the evening was the 400 medley relay as a team of
Michael Tretyakov,
Janek Barczyk, Viallon, and
Matheus Da Rocha finished in third overall with a time of 3:10.73. For the B team, the Mocs finished with a time of 3:16.26.
In prelims, Viallon had a 47.95 time to make the 100 fly A final. Outside of an evening invite, the Mocs had swims by
Tristan Clanton (49.84), Barczyk (49.89),
Cormac McKenney (49.96), and
William Eriksson (50.67) to represent the top 30 morning swims.
The Mocs had a strong morning in the 400 IM, led by Prosinski's 3:59.26 to make the A final. Baer made a 4:01.96 for the B final, with several other FSC swimmers in the top 30 of morning times.
Thomas Wooldridge swam a 4:05.84,
Jeremiah Goodwin swam 4:08.30,
Walter Christman in 28th overall with 4:08.50, and
Jaxon Reddig right behind with a 4:10.05.
To make the evening finals, Meszaros swam 1:36.72 in the morning session for the A final, with Neville (1:38.64) and Cushing (1:38.88) as B finalists, as the top 16 times.
The championship resumes tomorrow, Saturday, February 14th, at 10:00 AM with Day 4 prelims. Events for the day include the 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, and 200 butterfly. The evening finals will add the 200 free relay to complete the day's events.
