ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Florida Southern College baseball (12-11) clinched a 4-2 win over Flagler College (15-7) on Tuesday night at Drysdale Field. The Moccasins' pitching staff was on point, allowing just three hits and tallying four strikeouts over nine innings.
The Mocs jumped ahead in the third inning when
Eli Thurmond doubled to left center and crossed home plate on a single by
Ryan Jenkins, putting them up 1-0.
In the sixth, Florida Southern widened the gap. Jenkins was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a throwing error, giving the Mocs a 2-0 advantage.
Flagler got on the board in the eighth inning. Brayden Fox reached on an error and eventually scored on a stolen base followed by a single, narrowing the lead to 2-1.
In the ninth, Thurmond singled and scored on a fielder's choice by Jenkins.
Mikey Scott added to the score with an RBI single, stretching the lead to 4-1. The Saints managed one more run with a sacrifice fly, but the Moccasins secured the 4-2 victory.
Jenkins shone with two hits, two RBIs, and two runs. Thurmond was a force at the plate with four hits, including a double, and scored twice. On the mound,
Jayce Rollins delivered a stellar performance, pitching five innings without allowing a hit or run and striking out two to earn the win.
Rollins faced 15 batters, giving up just one walk and posting a minuscule WHIP of 0.20.
Heath Clevenger followed with 2 2/3 innings, striking out two and allowing just one run on a single hit.
Robert Tracy III secured the save with 2/3 innings of hitless relief, completing a solid effort from the Mocs' pitching staff.
Next up for Florida Southern is a matchup against Barry University. The game is set for Friday, March 13 at 6 p.m. at Feinbloom Field in Miami Shores, Florida.Â
