With the program's 35th berth to the NCAA Tournament, the RV Florida Southern College Moccasins men's basketball team will take on the University of Montevallo, from Montevallo, Ala., and the Gulf South Conference, in the opening game Saturday, March 14, of the 2026 NCAA Division II South Region Championship. The Moccasins, the fourth-seed in the region, will take on the Falcons, the fifth-seed in the bracket, at 7:30 PM in the final game of the first round at Rick Case Arena on the campus of Nova Southeastern University.

2026 NCAA DII South Region
The South Regional will feature three Sunshine State Conference teams with four Gulf South Conference programs, while the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) received one automatic qualifier. Nova Southeastern University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, and Florida Southern College represent the SSC in the tournament, while West Alabama, University of Montevallo, University of West Florida, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville represent the GSC. Morehouse College won the SIAC championship to secure the final spot in the regional as an automatic bid.
(4) RV Florida Southern takes on (5) Montevallo in the regional's last game of the first round at 7:30 PM on March 14. Earlier that day at noon, (3) No. 17 West Alabama and (6) West Florida will play each other in a GSC championship rematch, followed by (2) No. 11 Palm Beach Atlantic and (7) Alabama Huntsville at 2:30 p.m. The SSC Champion (1) No. 1 Nova Southeastern will take on SIAC Champion (8) Morehouse at 5 p.m., with the Mocs and Falcons in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m.
The Matchup
It's the third overall meeting between the Moccasins and Falcons, the second year in a row, after last year's NCAA First Round matchup. The Mocs won that game by an 86-83 score on March 15, also at the Rick Case Arena in Fort Lauderdale. The first-ever meeting between the two teams was on November 8, 2008, when Florida Southern earned a 73-58 win at the Disney Tip-Off Classic.

4th Seed - RV Florida Southern College Moccasins (22-10, 13-7 SSC)
Florida Southern enters at 22-10 after finishing third in the Sunshine State Conference regular season, and as tournament semifinalists, falling at Rubin Arena to Palm Beach Atlantic 82-77. This is the Mocs' third consecutive NCAA South Regional appearance, after advancing to the regional semifinal last year, where Florida Southern fell to #3 UAH 97-86.Â
The 2025-26 season opened with the Mocs hosting the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic, where they held a split record. They opened the season with a statement 88-76 victory over Alaska Anchorage, before falling in a one-possession game to UVA Wise 93-91.Â
The Mocs boasted a 9-3 record out of conference, with a 13-7 mark in SSC play. Moccasins' Amare Miller and Brady Corso have begun to pick up post-season accolades, with Miller being named first team All-SSC and second team D2CCA All-Region, while Corso was named third team All-SSC.Â
As a team, Florida Southern averages 89.0 points per game (ranking 10th in the nation), holding opponents to 83.1 (+5.9) while shooting 45.5% from the field and 34.4% from beyond the arc. The Moccasins also rank 10th in the nation in assists per game with 18.0. Jasir Tremble, Ameer Ramadan, and Charlie Dalton all have triple-digit assists, with Tremble leading the way at 122. The Mocs are shooting 75.2% from the free throw line. Miller ranks 24th in the nation in rebounds (263), 42nd in the nation in blocks with 45, and 11th in the nation in double-doubles with 14. Miller also ranks in the top-50 in shooting percentage wiht 54.72%. Dalton is one of only 15 players in Division II to record a triple-double this season.Â
Miller enters the weekend chasing 1,000 career points, as he currently sits at 975 between his time at UNC Pembroke (267) and Florida Southern (708). Earlier in the season, he surpassed the 500 rebounds career milestone against Palm Beach Atlantic on February 4th. Other Mocs to watch are guards Ramadan and Tremble. Tremble leads the Mocs in steals with 43 on the season, trailed closely behind by Dalton with 42. Tremble also leads the team in 3-point shooting, going 42.3% from beyond the arc. Corso and Ramadan are also impressive shooters from distance, shooting 38.1% and 36.8% from 3-point range respectfully. Spencer Schomers is also a defensive prescence off the Moccasin bench, with 24 blocks on the season. Khalil Ross has also added 21 blocks while averaging 9.1 points per game.Â
5th Seed – Montevallo (21-8, 17-5 GSC)
Montevallo advances to the NCAA South Regional for the second season in a row after posting a 21-8 overall record. The Falcons entered the season as the GSC favorites and have continued their success in 2025-26. As a team, Montevallo is averaging 78.4 points per game, nearly 10 points more than their opponent (69.1). They remain a strong-shooting team with a .469 average, .359 from beyond the arc. They hold a slight 1.4 rebounding margin over opponents, averaging 36.3 boards per game. In the assist category, the Falcons average 15.0 assists per game and a strong 9.1 steals per game, scoring 16.6 points off turnovers.Â
Consistent with a part of a 64-team bracket, the Falcons ranked in the top 30 of several statistical categories, including 16th in field goal percentage defense (40.3), 27th in steals per game (9.1), and 26th in three-point percentage defense (30.3).Â
Montevallo returned three of last year's top scorers, again led by Derek Moore with 18.1 points per game and a .615 shooting percentage. Moore was rewarded for his success this season by being named the 2025-26 GSC Player of the Year and a D2 CCA South Region First Team winner. Brandon Fussell is right behind with 17.0 points per game, a team leader in steals. Fussell, who was an All-GSC Second Team winner in 2024-25, joined Moore as a First Team member in the 2025-26 edition and a Second Team winner of the D2 CCA.Â
Jaylen Curry missed the first two months of the season, but has continued success in 2026, starting the last 17 games with a 13.1 PPG average. Curry was the final Falcon named All-GSC, earning a Third Team nod. Among all NCAA DII players, Moore is 11th overall in FG % (61.5), and Fussell is 17th overall in assists per game (5.4) and 16th in total assists (156). Â
FSC in the NCAA Tournament
The Moccasins are 49-34 overall in the NCAA tournament, dating back to 1972. FSC has two NCAA national championships (1981, 2015), seven Final Four Appearances, 10 South Region titles, and 35 total NCAA appearances. The last four NCAA regional appearances for Florida Southern have taken place in Fort Lauderdale, hosted by Nova Southeastern University, in 2019, 2024, 2025, and now 2026. As a program, Florida Southern ranks second in all-time postseason wins (49) and third in total NCAA appearances (35). FSC is 1-0 against Montevallo in the NCAA postseason.Â
