BOCA RATON, Fla. — Florida Southern College (10-27, 4-17 SSC) secured a 4–2 victory over Lynn University (11-27, 4-18 SSC) at Messinger Stadium on Friday. The Moccasins amassed 14 hits, including three doubles, contributing to their decisive win.
Florida Southern defeated Lynn 4–2 in a closely contested matchup. In the third inning,
Gigi Polanco singled and advanced to third on a single by
Hannah Lewis.
Kate Mikle then delivered a key hit, driving in Polanco and Lewis.
Nei Nei De Jesus followed with a double to score Mikle, giving Florida Southern a 3–1 lead after three innings.
Lynn added one run in the fourth, narrowing the gap to 3–2. The Mocs extended their lead in the sixth inning when
Alissa Kessler scored on a single by Polanco, making it 4–2.
The final score was Florida Southern 4, Lynn 2.
Polanco recorded three hits, including a double, and added an RBI. Lewis also contributed three hits and scored a run while stealing a base. Mikle drove in two runs with her single hit of the game.
Des Aitken pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run over 7 innings, securing the win.
Aitken delivered a complete game performance for the Moccasins, pitching 7 innings and allowing only 1 earned run on 6 hits. Aitken struck out 3 batters while issuing 3 walks and threw a total of 105 pitches, 69 of which were strikes. This effort marked Aitken's sixth win of the season, improving her record to 6-9.
Teagan Riley stood out offensively for Lynn, contributing two hits, including a double, and driving in one run. Marina Goins also delivered a solid performance at the plate with one hit, a double, while executing a sacrifice hit. On the mound, Kayley Zazzali pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out two batters. Additionally, Kaela Santiago reached base twice, recording one hit and drawing a walk, while scoring a run.
Looking ahead, the Moccasins will face Lynn on Saturday, April 25, at noon in Boca Raton, Florida.
