KENOSHA, Wis. - Chelsea Johnson and Megan Dzikas combined for 48 points, but it wasn't enough to prevent Wisconsin-Parkside from spoiling the Moccasins' season opener, 89-74, here Sunday.
Johnson had a game-high 25 points, while Dzikas added 23. Tanja Speaker tossed in 12 points.
The Rangers countered, however, with three players scoring over 20, led by Amanda Gibson's 23.
UW-Parkside, also playing its season opener, never trailed in the game. The Mocs had the game tied once at 4-4 with 17:15 left in the first half.
Down by as many as 17 points in the first half, the Moccasins were able to trim the deficit to 47-40 at halftime, as Johnson scored nine of her 11 first half points in the final 1:25 of the period. Dzikas had 18 in the first half.
The Rangers had an 8-0 spurt to start the second half, however, and the Moccasins were never able to get closer than seven points the rest of the game.
After shooting 60.9 percent from the field in the first half, the Rangers finished the game at 57.4 percent. The Moccasins shot 41.5 percent from the field in the game. UW-Parkside outscored FSC 20-12 from the free throw line and outrebounded the Mocs 42-26.
The Moccasins play their second game of the season Monday night at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill.
