JACKSON, Tenn. - Senior
Sydney Gomes of the Florida Southern College women's basketball team has been named to the 2025-26 D2CCA All-South Region First Team, the committee announced Thursday morning ahead of the opening round of NCAA South Regional play.
Gomes earned first team all-region honors following a dominant season in which she led the Moccasins on both ends of the floor. Her selection recognizes her as one of the premier players in the South Region and among the top standouts in Division II.
Most recently, Gomes was named to the SSC All-Tournament Team after guiding Florida Southern to its first Sunshine State Conference Championship game appearance in four years. She poured in 58 points across three tournament games, tallying 12 against Tampa, 22 against Eckerd, and 24 against Nova Southeastern to help propel the Mocs to the title game.
The 5-foot-8 guard also collected Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year honors, along with All-SSC First Team and All-Defensive Team recognition, capping one of the most decorated seasons in recent program history.
A native of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Gomes is averaging 18.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in 35.8 minutes per game. She ranks second in the conference in points, rebounds, and assists per contest while shooting 45 percent from the field and 34 percent from three-point range. Her leadership helped guide the Mocs to a 22-6 overall record and a 15-5 mark in Sunshine State Conference play.
Gomes became just the 12th player in Florida Southern women's basketball history to earn SSC Player of the Year honors and the first since 2018-19. A five-time SSC Player of the Week and a Defensive Player of the Week selection, her impact has consistently been recognized throughout the league.
This marks Gomes' second All-SSC selection after earning second-team honors in 2024-25. During the 2025-26 campaign, she recorded her third career triple-double, surpassed 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds, and 300 career assists, and most recently set the Florida Southern single-game assist record with 15.
UAH's Lili Wilken was named as the 2026 D2CCA South Region Player of the Year, and all first team selections will advance to the All-America ballot.
