Mocs' Late Surge Produces 8th Straight Win

LAKELAND - A 22-9 run in the final 3:19 propelled the Moccasins to a 74-66 win over Saint Rose Saturday in the FSC/Holiday Inn South Classic at Jenkins Field House.

A pair of free throws by Elizabeth Buckley gave Saint Rose a 57-52 lead with 4:53 remaining, but a layup by Nicolle DiRaimo, a pair of free throws by Michaela Hawley and a free throw by Tanja Speaker pulled the Moccasins even at 57-57 with 4:06 to go.

Chelsea Johnson, who had been held to just four points in the game, sank a three-pointer with 3:19 left to give the Moccasins a lead they would not surrender.

The win is the Moccasins' eighth straight and improves their record to 8-1. Saint Rose fell to 4-6.

Megan Dzikas led the Moccasin scoring with 23 points, 17 of them coming in the first half. She was eight-for-eight from the free throw line. Hawley had 15 of her 19 points in the second half. Johnson had nine of her 13 points in the final 3:19. DiRaimo added 12 points and collected a team-high nine rebounds.

Ashley Rath led Saint Rose with 17 points, while Ali Johnson delivered a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Moccasins outscored the Golden Knights 25-10 at the free throw line and forced 24 turnovers. However, they were just three of 11 on three-pointers, their lowest total of the season. Saint Rose, which hit eight three-pointers, outrebounded the Moccasins 42-34.

In Saturday's first game, Saint Leo topped North Georgia 81-63. The Lions had a 23-point performance from Brittany Carannante, including four three-pointers, and an 18-point effort off the bench from Brianna Lollis.

Whitney Randolph led North Georgia with 16 points.

On Sunday, Saint Leo meets Saint Rose at noon and the Moccasins take on North Georgia at 2 p.m.
