Bombs Away! Fogle and Moccasins Set 3-Point Records in 99-56 Win at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE - This was one Valentine's Day that Alli Fogle will remember for a long time. Flagler College would just like to forget it. Behind Fogle's career-high 30 points and record-tying eight 3-point field goals, Florida Southern ran past Flagler, 99-56, setting another school record for 3-point shooting in the process.

A lot of Moccasins have scored 30 points in the past, but not the way Fogle did on Saturday. The senior guard had 14 points in the first six minutes, 22 by halftime and didn't miss a shot until the final three minutes of the game. She finished eight-for-10 behind the arc, four-for-four at the line, had eight rebounds and handed out six assists. She also had two steals and a blocked shot for good measure.

The eight 3-pointers tied the school record set earlier this year by Chelsea Johnson, who had two of them herself against Flagler and scored 12 points. As a team, the Moccasins were 15-for-29 behind the arc, breaking the team record for 3-point field goals as well. The previous record of 14 was also set earlier this year in a game against Palm Beach Atlantic. In fact, the Mocs hit their first nine attempts from long range against Flagler, and were 11-for-12 at halftime when they led 64-28.

Florida Southern (17-6) made its first five field goal attempts of the day and nine of its first 10 to take a 25-11 lead just over six minutes into the game. Six of those shots were 3-pointers, and four of them came from Fogle's hand. She also scored on a break-away layup after a steal by Emer Foley and later made two free throws after the frustrated Saints intentionally fouled her on another trip down the court. That gave Fogle 19 of Florida Southern’s first 36 points.

By halftime, the Mocs were still shooting 73 percent from the floor and 92 percent from 3-point distance. Worse yet for the Saints, Fogle came out of the locker room for the second half to finish what she started.

That second half started with Flagler's Jen Mitchell hitting a 3-point shot, but over the Mocs answered by hitting seven in a row from the floor to out-score the Saints 16-2 over the next four minutes. Johnson made three of those shots, while Foley and Megan Dzikas each made two.

The Moccasins substituted liberally after that, but Fogle wasn't quite done. She extended her 3-point shooting streak to eight in a row when she canned one with a hand in her face at the 3:45 mark. That got her to the 30-point plateau and her name in the record book next to Johnson's.

The Moccasins also got 11 points from Nicolle DiRaimo, and 10 from both Foley and Dzikas. All of them took turns feeding the ball to Fogle, with DiRaimo notching seven assists and hitting a pair of threes as well. Kirstin McIntyre, who played much of the second half for Foley, added six points and a career-high 14 rebounds.

Flagler (3-21) got 18 points from Chanti Beckett and 10 from Jalisa Foster but shot just 37 percent and turned the ball over 23 times.

Florida Southern's next game will be Wednesday night in St. Petersburg against Eckerd College at 5:30.
