LAKELAND - C.J. Johnson earned a three-set win for the Moccasins and nearly helped the Mocs pick up a doubles point, but #7 Ouachita Baptist ultimately prevailed with an 8-1 victory over #19 Florida Southern.
All three doubles matches were close and could have gone the Mocs' way, but in each one, the Tigers (11-0) pulled away. One of those was a 9-8 (2) win by J.C. Diame and Pierre Tafelski over Ben Taylor and Greg Heartt. Another was the 8-6 win at #3 doubles where Szymon Judek and Vasek Stverka slipped by Johnson and Guenther Fercher.
In singles play, OBU earned five straight-set wins, with Johnson preventing the shutout. He out-lasted Judek at the #5 position, 6-1, 4-6, 10-5.
The Moccasins (8-6) will be in Pensacola for their next two matches, facing #27 North Alabama on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. ET, and #9 West Florida on Friday at 10:30 a.m. ET.
