DAVIE - Nova Southeastern's Stephanie Sarosi proved to be too much for the Moccasins to handle for the second straight game here Wednesday.
After a 31-point, 15-rebound effort Saturday night against the Moccasins, Sarosi had 29 points and 10 rebounds in Wednesday night's 82-71 victory in the first round of the BlueCross BlueShield of Florida Sunshine State Conference Tournament at Davie. The win improved the Sharks' record to 14-14 and advanced them to Saturday's semifinals, while the Moccasins ended their season at 18-10.
The Moccasins trailed only by five, 36-31, at halftime and with 7:40 left in the game, Megan Dzikas hit a jumper to cut the Sharks' lead to 57-55. Then Sarosi went to work. The 6-5 junior, who leads the SSC in scoring and rebounding, scored 10 of the Sharks' next 15 points and with 3:30 remaining, the Sharks had built the lead to nine, 72-63, and the Moccasins could get no closer than seven the rest of the way.
Dzikas and Chelsea Johnson each scored 19 points to lead the Moccasins' scoring. Michaela Hawley added 14. Seniors Emer Foley and Alli Fogle scored eight and five points, respectively, in their final game for FSC.
The Moccasins have improved from 11 wins in coach Jarrod Olson's first season to 15 wins last season to 18 wins this season. The 18 wins are the most the Moccasins have had since the 2004-05 team finished 18-11.
