LAKELAND - Barry made its first seven shots of the game, shot 81 percent from the field in the first half and went on to down the Moccasins 68-47 here Saturday night at Jenkins Field House.
With the win, the Buccaneers pull even with the Moccasins in the Sunshine State Conference standings; both teams are 6-3. Barry is 14-5 overall; the Moccasins are 16-4.
Barry missed only two shots from the field until the final seconds of the first half, when they missed their final two attempts to finish the first half hitting 17 of 21 from the field and holding a 38-25 advantage. The Mocs shot 32.3 percent in the first half (10-for-31).
Unlike Wednesday night at Nova Southeastern when they rallied from 13 points down in the final 12 minutes, the Moccasins were unable to put together any kind of a sustained rally against the Buccaneers. Michaela Hawley made a pair of free throws with 16:26 remaining to get the Moccasins as close as nine points at 41-32, but Barry then scored nine unanswered points and the Moccasins never got closer than 15 points the rest of the game.
Barry cooled off in the second half, shooting 45.8 percent from the field, but finished the game at 62.2 percent, while the Moccasins shot a season-low 27.1 percent from the floor for the game.
Mariesa Greene, the SSC's leading scorer, led Barry with 22 points. Christina Thompson added 16.
Megan Dzikas led the Moccasins with 22 points and Hawley added 10, but no one else scored more than eight in the setback.
The Moccasins are on the road Wednesday night at Florida Tech for a 5:30 SSC game. It will be broadcast live on the internet on SportsLine Radio Network (SLRN).
