Box Score
A cold-shooting spell of nearly nine minutes in the second half proved costly for the Moccasins, as they suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 13th-ranked Clayton State, 82-73, in the Eckerd Classic Saturday afternoon at St. Petersburg.
The Moccasins led 46-42 at halftime and were still up 50-48 on Chelsea Johnson's layup with 17:58 remaining. However, the Moccasins would not score another basket from the field until the 9:09 mark and had just two free throws during that period. Meanwhile, the Lakers broke a 52-52 tie with 13 unanswered points in a five-minute span to go up 65-52 and the Moccasins never got closer than nine points the rest of the game.
Megan Dzikas scored a season-high 19 points to lead FSC's scoring. She was seven-of-seven from the free throw line. Michaela Hawley also had a season scoring high with 14 points. Emma Cannon posted her second double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Chelsea Johnson tossed in 10 points.
Tanisha Woodard led the Lakers with 17 points and Renee Jackson contributed 16 off the bench.
The Moccasins will try for their second win of the week over Puerto Rico-Bayamon Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Eckerd Classic. FSC won 78-56 over UPR-Bayamon Tuesday night at Jenkins Field House.
