Emma Cannon and Michaela Hawley combined for 52 points and 25 rebounds to lead the Moccasins to an 87-67 win over St. Augustine's in the Holiday Inn South Classic at Jenkins Field House Sunday.
Cannon recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a 25-point, 17-rebound effort, while Hawley went 11-14 from the field and delivered a season-high 27 points to go with eight rebounds. As if that wasn't enough, Chelsea Johnson and Megan Dzikas combined for 27 points and 15 assists to help the Moccasins improve their record to 7-2. Johnson had 14 points and Dzikas added 13 plus a career-high 12 assists.
The Moccasins (7-2) never trailed in the game and led by as many as 15 in the first half before the Falcons trimmed the margin to eight, 39-31, at halftime. FSC built the lead back up to 14, at 59-45, with 12:03 remaining before the Falcons went on a 13-5 run in the next four minutes that sliced the deficit to six, 64-58, with 8:14 to go. The Moccasins responded with a 14-4 run of their own with eight of the points coming on four break-away layups by Cannon after missed Falcon shots to put the game out of reach.
Allison Sikes led St. Augustine's (5-4) with 26 points and Keona Bryant added a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Moccasins are idle until they begin Sunshine State Conference action with a 2 p.m. game at Jenkins Field House Jan. 2 against Florida Tech.
In Sunday's first game, Tampa (7-2) downed Indianapolis 70-53 behind a 27-point, 10-rebound effort from Taja Green. Samantha Meissel led Indianapolis (5-4) with 11 points.Â
