Wade Kirkland hit for the cycle and Tucker Pryor pitched a complete-game, seven-inning shutout in the second game to give the second-ranked Moccasins a sweep of Saturdays doubleheader with Pace, 13-2 and 14-0, at Henley Field.
Kirkland accomplished his feat in just four at-bats, with a single in the first, a home run in the third and a triple and a double in the fourth. He finished the game with five RBI. He's the first Moccasin to hit for the cycle since Mike Grace did it on Mar. 15, 2006, against Mass.-Lowell. Kirkland raised his team-leading batting average to .512 and had eight RBI for the day.
Pryor, a transfer from North Florida, made his first start after two earlier relief appearances this season and was in complete control. He allowed just three hits, a single in the second and doubles in the fifth and sixth, while striking out five and walking none.
The Moccasins, now 10-0, gave Pryor all the runs he needed with two in the first, then added three in the third and broke the game open with a nine-run fourth in which they sent 13 batters to the plate. In addition to Kirkland's home run, his second of the season, Kelvin Clark hit his fourth of the season.
In the first game, a six-run second inning gave Moccasin starter Eddie Sipple all the runs he needed. He worked six innings, struck out seven and walked one to earn his second win of the season.
Clark, Kirkland, Tyler Benzel and Colin Kaline each had two hits in the game. Trae Gore hit his second homer and drove in four runs. Clark drove in two runs and Kirkland drove in three.
The Moccasins and Pace (0-3) finish their four-game series Sunday with a 1 p.m. single game at Henley Field.
