Mocs Go To 11-0 With 22-4 Win Over Pace Sunday

In what already had been an impressive offensive performance for the weekend, the second-ranked Moccasins saved their best effort for last, pounding Pace 22-4 Sunday at Henley Field to complete a sweep of their four-game series.

The Moccasins outscored Pace 68-8 in the series, hitting .386 as a team with six home runs. The Moccasin pitching staff produced a team ERA of 1.59. Pace, which was playing its first games of the season, committed 18 errors in the four games.

In Sunday'€™s game, the Moccasins did most of their damage in two big innings. They sent 16 batters to the plate in a 12-run third inning and sent 12 batters to the plate in an eight-run sixth inning.

Every Moccasin starter scored at least one run. Colin Kaline and Drew Morgan led the offense with three hits each. Morgan, Trae Gore, Kelvin Clark and Andrew Grutka each drove in three runs.

Max Russell was the beneficiary of the offensive output, working five innings to collect his second win of the season. He gave up just two hits and one run, struck out five and walked none.

The Moccasins, now 11-0, could be the top-ranked team in the country when the new Division II poll is released Monday. Top-ranked Emporia State lost a game during the week for its first loss of the season.

West Florida comes to Lakeland for a three-game series starting Friday night at 7 at Henley Field, followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
