Box Score
The Moccasins are finding out that playing with the lead can be a lot of fun. For the third straight game, the Moccasins never trailed and rolled past Eckerd 84-46 Wednesday night at Jenkins Field House. It was FSC's fifth straight win, all by 12 points or more.
The win boosted the Mocs' overall record to 11-2 and their Sunshine State Conference mark to 4-0, which allowed them to keep pace with first-place Tampa. The Spartans improved to 5-0 in the SSC with a 78-66 home win over Saint Leo Wednesday. A fast start was the key against the Tritons, as the Moccasins had a double-digit lead in less than five minutes, 17-6 with 15:56 left in the first half, and Eckerd never got any closer the rest of the game. The Moccasins' lead was 39-20 at halftime and they led by as many as 41 late in the game.
As impressive as the Moccasins' offensive effort was - 46% from the field, 12-27 on three-pointers, 14-17 on free throws and only eight turnovers - the defensive effort deserved equal recognition. The Tritons shot 37.2% from the field, made just four of 17 three-pointers and turned the ball over 19 times, giving the Moccasins a 24-2 edge in points off turnovers.
Emma Cannon led the FSC offense with 17 points and she also collected a team-high eight rebounds. Sofie Lundberg came off the bench and scored a season-high 16 points, hitting four of six three-pointers. Chelsea Johnson tossed in 11 points and for the seventh time this season, Taylor Maldonado produced a double-figure scoring effort off the bench with 10 points. Krystal Charles and Lotte Tobiasen led the Tritons (9-5, 3-2 SSC) with 10 points each.
The Moccasins take on Lynn, which lost to Florida Tech 72-48 Wednesday night, Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Jenkins Field House.
