Box Score
A 16-1 run in the first six minutes of the second half allowed the Moccasins to overpower Queens (N.C.) and register their fourth straight win without a loss, 71-53, at the Eckerd Classic in St. Petersburg Saturday.
Leading 28-26 at halftime, the Moccasins exploded for 16 points, seven by Tracy Fosterling, in the first six minutes of the second half and held Queens (1-4) without a field goal for just over seven minutes to put the game out of reach.
Fosterling made her first start of the season in place of Megan Dzikas, who was sidelined with a foot injury and who had a string of 82 consecutive starts come to an end. Fosterling responded with 12 points, all in the second half, and nine rebounds and logged a team-high 36 minutes.
Morgan Lamberg notched her second straight double-double with a 14-point, 19-rebound effort and also contributed six assists. Michaela Hawley led the Moccasins in scoring with 17 points.
Not only were the Moccasins without Dzikas, they also lost the services of Taylor Maldonado for the second half with a shoulder injury.
The Moccasins generated a 52-32 rebounding advantage, while shooting 45 percent from the field and limiting Queens to just 31 percent. Shonice Pettaway led the Royals with 28 points, but no one else scored in double figures.
The Moccasins will try to make it five straight wins Saturday when they play Puerto Rico-Bayamon at 1 p.m. at the Eckerd Classic.
