Hawleyâ?' Double-Double Helps Lead Mocs To Fifth Straight Win

Box Score

Led by Michaela Hawley’s double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds, the Moccasins pulled away late in the second half and topped Puerto Rico-Bayamon, 72-59, at the Eckerd Classic in St. Petersburg Saturday afternoon.

The win was the Moccasins’ fifth straight this season without a loss, while UPR-Bayamon is winless in five games.

Playing without starters Megan Dzikas and Taylor Maldonado, both of whom are injured, the Moccasins could not pull away from Bayamon in the first half.  FSC had built a 13-point lead with 4:26 left in the half, but Bayamon scored the final 12 points of the period to trim the lead to 31-30 at halftime.

The Moccasins increased their margin to 43-32 with 15:37 left in the game only to see Bayamon cut it to 47-43 at the 9:59 mark.  Sofie Lundberg, who came off the bench to score a season-high 13 points, put the FSC lead into double digits with a three-pointer, one of her three in the game, to make it 58-48 with 6:17 remaining and Bayamon was only able to get as close as nine points, 66-57 with 2:18 to go, the rest of the game.

Hawley’s 22 points marked her fourth 20-point game this season and her 12 rebounds were a season high.  It was the 15th double-double of her career.  Her career rebound total is now 552, good for 17th place on the FSC career rebounding list.  She also was 8-8 from the free throw line and is now shooting 85.3% from the free throw line this season (29-34).  Tracy Fosterling, making her second start in place of Dzikas, almost had a double-double, scoring a season-high 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds.  Morgan Lamberg tossed in 10 points.  Danielle Walsh matched her career scoring high with nine points and she delivered a season-high eight assists.  Alexis Hochstetler made her first career start in place of Maldonado and scored four points with three assists.

The Moccasins had a big edge at the free throw line and in rebounding.  FSC made 16 of 19 free throws, while Bayamon was five for five.  FSC out-rebounded Bayamon 41-29.

FSC plays at Flagler Wednesday at 7 p.m.
