MELBOURNE - Winning four straight singles matches in straight sets after falling behind in doubles play, 11th-ranked Florida Southern was able to rally for a 6-3 victory over #23 Florida Tech on Friday, giving the Moccasins nine wins in their last 10 matches.
Florida Tech (13-7, 2-5 Sunshine State Conference) won the first two doubles matches that were completed before the Moccasin comeback began with Veronika Kovacikova and Joalis Dominguez. Teaming up for a 9-8 (7-3) at the #2 doubles position over Abigail Greif and Monica Price, Kovacikova and Dominguez gave Florida Southern (12-3, 5-3) its first point of the match before both players also won in singles.
Meanwhile Sabine Goge and Crystal Copeland also took their singles matches, giving Florida Southern a 5-2 lead and securing the outcome for the Moccasins. Agnese Rozite, ranked #31 individually, then added a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win over 26th-ranked Katarina Huba to notch Florida Southern's final point.
Florida Southern returns to the court on Tuesday when it travels to Daytona Beach to face Embry-Riddle at 3:30 p.m.
