PENSACOLA - With three players moving up in the lineup, and two of them winning without dropping a game, Florida Southern finished off a 3-0 road trip with a 7-2 win over Montevallo (AL) on Sunday.
The 11th-ranked Moccasins (15-4) had already defeated Lambuth, 9-0 on Friday, and 7th-ranked West Florida, 5-4 on Saturday. Less than 24 hours after their come-from-behind win over the Argonauts, the Mocs were in control right from the start in this one, even down one player. With Veronika Kovacikova, their normal #3 player, out of the lineup, head coach Trish Riddell bumped Joalis Dominguez, Crystal Copeland and Pamela Paradis up one spot each, and also paired Copeland with Dominguez at #2 doubles. The Mocs won all of those matches, and also got a doubles win from Agnese Rozite and Sabine Goge, as well as singles points from both of those players as well.
Goge and Rozite got things started at #1 doubles with an 8-0 win, while Copeland and Dominguez (playing together for the first time this year), won their doubles match, 8-1.
In singles play, both Dominguez and Paradis won their matches 6-0, 6-0, and Copeland wasn't far behind with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the #4 positon. It was the second time this year the three freshmen stepped up one spot in the lineup and won all three matches.
Goge won her match at #2 singles, 6-0, 6-1, and Rozite took her match at the top flight, 6-0, 6-2.
Montevallo's two points came by default at #3 doubles and #6 singles. The Falcons ended their season with a 4-19 record.
Florida Southern will now turn its sights on the Sunshine State Conference Championships, which get underway on Thursday in Altamonte Springs. The Moccasins are seeded 4th, and will face 5th-seeded Nova Southeastern on Thursday at 9:00 a.m.
