Ducott Earns Career-High 12 Points in Road Loss to Rollins

Box Score

WINTER PARK â€" Florida Southern (8-10, 2-6 SSC) could not shake a hot three-point shooting performance by Rollins College (12-6, 3-5 SSC) here at Warden Arena on Rollins’ campus, losing 81-53 in Sunshine State Conference action here Wednesday evening.

Seniors Kirstin McIntyre (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Melanie Ducott (North Lauderdale, Fla.) were bright spots on the night as McIntyre earned her team leading third double-double of the season as she scored 17 points and pulled down 10 boards, while Ducott would finish the game with a career-high 12 points.

The opening tip may have prophesized the rest of the game for the Mocs as Ducott was able to control the first possession but was unable to get her breakaway layup to fall. From there the Tars jumped out to an early 11-4 lead, over the first 3:14 of the game, before Mocs head coach Holly Borchers called a timeout to calm the Mocs.

After the Tars had built a 16-7 lead, McIntyre would spark an 11-6 run by tallying five straight points for the Mocs, closing Rollins’ lead to four points, 22-18. That would be the closest the Mocs would get the rest of the way as the Tars used an 18-8 run to head into halftime up 40-26.

The Tars closed out the final 7:40 of the first half on an 18-8 run turning a four point lead into a 10 point lead and going into the break with a 40-26 lead.

Coming out of halftime, FSC would use their stringent defense to slow down the Tars for the first five minutes of the second half allowing Rollins to only score two points early on. The Mocs couldn’t take advantage of the scoring drought by the Tars however and would only score four points themselves during the stretch.

The Tars would then use a 10-0 run to virtually put the game away and would finish the game outscoring the Mocs 39-21 in the second hlaf. The three point shot was deadly for the Tars, especially in the second half, as they hit seven of their 11 in the final 15 minutes of the game.

Freshman Mariah Harris (Gainesville, Fla.) finished the night with nine points and eight boards, while senior Alexis Hochstetler (Sarasota, Fla.) and senior Tracy Fosterling (Albuquerque, N.M) each scored four points on the night.

Five different Tars scored in double-figures on the night. Leading the way for Rollins was Ashley Losch with 17 points and Tera McDaniel who garnered 13 points.

The Mocs will start the second half of conference play Saturday, Feb. 2 at home against the Lynn Fighting Knights in Jenkins Field House at 5:30 p.m. on the campus of Florida Southern College. FSC opened SSC play with a 59-52 win at Lynn on Dec. 1.
