PENSACOLA - Florida Southern concluded its slate of matches this weekend against Gulf South Conference foes by suffering a 7-2 loss to third-ranked West Florida at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Center on the UWF campus.
With Sunday's loss, the Mocs fell to 2-1 on the weekend and dropped its season record to 12-8 overall, while UWF improved to 16-1 overall.
In Sunday's match, the Mocs picked up its only win at the No. 2 spot as junior Nathan Leavitt (Bradenton, Fla.) and junior Vladimir Barabash (Puhovka, Ukraine) defeated UWF's Domenico Sano and Tony Rajaobelina, 8-4. The Argos two wins came at the No. 1 spot (8-2) and at the No. 3 spot, 8-0.
Meanwhile, in singles action, the Mocs lone victory came at the No. 4 spot as junior Jorge Gutierrez (Madrid, Spain) defeated Felipe Frattini in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 5-7, 10-3.
The Argos won the other five singles matches in straight sets, but sophomore Carl Lundberg (Stocksund, Sweden) forced a tiebreaker in the first set against Rajabobelina as Lundberg fell 7-6 (7-2), before losing 6-1 in the second set.
Four of the Argos six singles players are ranked nationally as its No. 1 player, Kevin Ducros is ranked eighth as he defeated sophomore Emanuel Lueber (Tiengen, Germany) in straight sets (6-1, 6-1), while its No. 2 player Bruno Savi is ranked No. 2 and defeated junior Benoit Paradis (Quebec City, Quebec) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 and Barabash lost at the No. 4 spot to 45th-ranked Elio Latela, 6-1, 6-0.
The Mocs will close out the regular season on Wednesday, April 10 as they host Webber International in a 3 p.m. non-conference match at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center on the FSC campus.
